He then attended Government Secondary School Dawakin Tofa before transferring to Government Secondary School Lautai in Gumel, where he graduated in 1980.
Abba Kabir Yusuf graduated with a National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in 1985 and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic in 1989.
Later, he earned a postgraduate diploma in management as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Bayero University in Kano.

Abba was the formal Commissioner of Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport (Kano State), Abba contested in 2019 gubernatorial election held in 2019, and he was defeated by the current governor of Kano State Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Abba took the case to court to claim himself as the rightful elected governor, after all, the court dismissed the case.
