According to a statement by the Federal Government on Saturday, N1.03 billion has been paid to 7,912 pensioners in power and transport sectors.

The statement, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (Nigeria), was made by the PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Chioma Ejeikeme, on behalf of the agency’s Chief of Corporate Communications (CCC).

Ejeikeme said that the payment was made to address the 39 per cent arrears accrued by pensioners between August 2015 and September 2023 under the PaPD scheme.

She added that the amount of arrears had been calculated through a back-end process by PTAD, which was necessary to ensure that every pensioner received an accurate pension in accordance with the principles of fairness, equality and justice.

Ajayi added that the investigation had revealed a payroll issue among pensioners in which the sector was underpaid, and that corrective action must be taken.
