The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has officially announced the commencement of registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates 2023 – second series. This notice serves to inform the general public and intending candidates of the upcoming registration slated to begin on July 10, 2023.

What is WAEC GCE 2nd Series?

The West African Examination Council conducts two series of exams for private candidates each year. The WASSCE for Private Candidates-First Series (Jan/Feb) and Second Series (Aug/Sept). The WAEC GCE 2nd series is the August/September examination. The sale of the WAEC GCE 2nd series registration form usually commences around July, while the exam holds from August to September.

If you missed the first series or did not perform well, the second series provides an opportunity to re-sit the exam.

WAEC GCE Registration Deadline Closing Date 2023/2024

The registration for the 2023 WAEC GCE Second Series will commence on July 10, 2023, and will close on August 11, 2023. Prospective candidates are advised to complete their registration within two weeks of first access to the website during the registration period.

How Do I Register for GCE 2023?

To register for the WAEC GCE Second Series 2023, candidates are expected to follow the instructions and guidelines provided by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Step 1: Purchase the WAEC GCE Registration PIN

Candidates are expected to purchase the WAEC GCE registration PIN at the cost of Eighteen Thousand Naira (N18,000) only. The PIN can be obtained at any of the following banks or any accredited agent:

Candidates are advised to pay an additional Five Hundred Naira (N500.00) commission to the banks/accredited agents. Alternatively, candidates can explore any of the following cashless payment channels to procure the registration token with a credit/debit card.

Step 2: Obtain Information VCD and the Biometric Data Capture Software

After purchasing the registration PIN, candidates will be given an information VCD and directed to download the biometric data capture software from the WAEC website. The biometric data capture software is used to capture candidates’ biometric features that will be used for validation at the examination centers.

Step 3: Complete Registration on the WAEC GCE Registration Portal

Candidates should log on to https://registration.waecdirect.org/ to complete their registration. Candidates are expected to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and biometric features during registration. Candidates with special needs should clearly state their impairments during registration.

Candidates should select the subjects they wish to take during the exam and the town where they want to write the exam. Candidates should ensure that their names, gender, passport photographs, dates of birth, and subjects are correct.

Step 4: Print Admission Notice and Examination Photocard

After completing registration, candidates should print their Admission Notice, which will serve as identification during the examination. The Result Checker PIN will also be on the Admission Notice. Candidates should also print their examination photocard, which contains their examination number, name, subjects they are attempting in the exam, and a free WAEC result checker pin.

Subjects Offered

A total of thirty-six (36) subjects will be available for the examination. Prospective candidates are advised to visit the Council’s corporate website – www.waecnigeria.org – to confirm the available examination towns and subjects before obtaining the registration PIN.

Walk-in Registration

Walk-in registration is allowed, but candidates will be required to pay thirty thousand, five hundred Naira (N30,500.00) only per candidate. Registration must be done not less than twenty-four hours before the scheduled time of the paper(s) intended to sit for.

How to Prepare for the WAEC GCE Examination

The WAEC GCE examination is a comprehensive examination that requires adequate preparation. Candidates are advised to study the Regulations and Syllabuses for the examination, which they can download from the WAEC website using their registration PIN.

Candidates should also study recommended textbooks, attend tutorial classes, and practice past questions to increase their chances of success. Candidates should also ensure they are well-rested and have a healthy diet to enhance their mental and physical state during the examination.

General Information for WAEC GCE Exam

Candidates are expected to observe all COVID-19 regulations during the examination. Smoking and alcohol are not allowed in the examination hall. Candidates who engage in examination malpractice will not only have their results canceled but may also be prosecuted.

Candidates should ensure they provide valid email and telephone number(s) during registration. Entries must be uploaded with good quality passport size photographs, not “wait and get” photographs. The background of such photographs MUST NOT BE BLUE OR RED. The size should be 275 by 314 pixels. Entries with unacceptable passport photographs will be rejected.

Candidates should go to the exam hall with mufti. Uniforms of any kind are not allowed. The whole results of candidates who sit for the exam in more than one center will be seized.
