WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is making some changes to its service. Currently, Android users can store their chat history, including pictures and videos, for free on Google Drive. However, this will soon change.

The data that is stored on Google Drive will now count towards the 15GB storage limit that Google gives to its users. Alternatively, users can choose to sign up for a subscription to Google One.

Google announced these changes in a post in November. They wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the new rules. They explained that WhatsApp backups on Android will soon be counted towards your Google Account storage limit.

This is similar to how WhatsApp backups are treated on other types of phones. The changes will first start with WhatsApp Beta users in December 2023, and then gradually be rolled out to all WhatsApp users on Android in early 2024.
